AI App Builder Pricing in 2026: What It Really Costs
You can build your first site or app with AI for free, and after that the price is measured per action, not per project. In Zugo the action prices are three lines: an edit costs 3 credits, a fresh single-page build costs 6, and a multi-file platform costs 4. Pro is $25/month for 200 credits — by that price list, up to 16 full platforms, 33 quick builds, or 66 edits.
We make Zugo, so one disclosure up front: our own numbers are exact, and the competitor figures below are checked against their public pricing pages as of July 2026 and drift over time. Here is how that arithmetic lands on real projects, what never costs credits, and how the whole category actually prices.
How does AI app builder pricing work?
Most AI builders barely charge "per site." There is a subscription, and inside it sits a spendable unit — a credit, a message, or a token. Every request to the agent spends some of it, so the whole economy comes down to two numbers: how many units the plan gives you, and how many units one useful action burns.
That is where comparison gets slippery. A plan's headline number means nothing on its own: 200 credits at one service and 100 at another are not comparable until you know what an action costs. So count actions that fit in a month, not credits, and definitely not the sticker price.
What are Zugo's action prices?
Zugo publishes a flat action price list, which is the part most services leave vague:
| Action | Cost | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Edit | 3 credits | Any change by text: "make the header darker," "add a pricing block" |
| Fresh build | 6 credits | A new single-page site, landing, mini-app, or 2D game |
| Multi-file platform | 12 credits | A multi-page site or app across several files, billed once for the whole build |
The edit price is deliberately flat. Sometimes the agent changes two lines, sometimes it rewrites the whole document, and you cannot predict which — so the price should not depend on it.
What do Zugo's plans cost per month?
| Plan | Price | Credits | Inside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 5 at signup, once | Full builder, preview, publish one project |
| Pro | $25/mo | 200 | Unlimited projects, credits roll over, custom domains |
| Business | $99/mo | 800 | Everything in Pro, team seats and roles, priority builds |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | SSO, audit logs, dedicated support |
The free 5 credits arrive once and need no card. By the action list, that covers exactly what a free tier is for: build one site and make three edits, or run one multi-file platform and fix it once. Enough to test the product on your own real task, not to run on it for months — and we do not pretend otherwise.
If you want credits without a subscription, there are packs: $10 for 40 credits, $25 for 100, and $50 for 240. Honestly, a pack credit costs more than a subscription credit — in Pro a credit works out to about $0.125, and a pack roughly doubles that. Packs make sense as a one-off top-up during a busy stretch, not as a way to live cheaper than the subscription.
What does a real project cost in credits?
The number of edits is yours, not ours, so this is arithmetic with the assumption stated. Swap in your own edit count and you get your own price.
| Project | Breakdown | Credits | On Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Landing page | 1 build + 8 edits | 10 | about $1.25 |
| Multi-page site | 1 platform + 12 edits | 16 | about $2 |
| App with database and login | 1 platform + 20 edits | 24 | about $3 |
| 2D game | 1 build + 10 edits | 12 | about $1.50 |
At the subscription rate — 200 credits for $25 — a credit is $0.125. Eight edits on a landing page is an assumption, not a measurement: a careful prompt might need three, a project you redesign as you go might need thirty. Which gives the one useful takeaway: the people who spend less are not the ones on the cheaper plan, they are the ones who state the task clearly before they build.
What doesn't cost credits?
This is the most underused way to cut the bill, because three common actions are free:
- Plan mode — you talk the task through with the agent and it shows how it understood the build, with no build and no charge. One planning conversation is usually cheaper than two failed builds.
- Templates — clicking "Use template" clones a finished project with no AI call and no credits. There are 25 templates across 5 categories, walked through in the Zugo templates guide; starting from the nearest one is almost always cheaper than describing everything from scratch.
- Remix — an independent copy of a project so you can experiment without breaking the working version. Also free.
Publishing, previews, and opening projects spend nothing. You can publish in one click to a your-project.zugo.run address on the free plan too.
How do other AI builders price?
Prices from public pricing pages as of July 2026. Watch the spend-unit column — it is different for almost every one, which is exactly why the headline plan prices do not compare directly.
| Service | Paid entry | Spend unit | Free start |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zugo | $25/mo, 200 credits | Credit, published list: 1 / 2 / 4 | 5 credits, no card |
| Lovable | $25/mo | Credits (≈ a message) | 5 credits/day, up to 30/mo |
| Bolt.new | $25/mo | Tokens | 1M tokens/month |
| v0 by Vercel | $20/mo | Credits and messages | $5 credits + 7 messages/day |
| Replit | $25/mo | Agent credits | Daily credits, 1 public app |
| Base44 | $16/mo | Message credits | 25 credits/month |
| Framer | $10–$100/mo | Not credits, priced per site | Free tier, custom domain when paid |
| Tilda | Personal / Business | Not credits, priced per account | Up to 50 pages, tilda.ws subdomain |
One practical read: paid entry across AI builders has converged into a narrow $16–25 band, so choosing on subscription price is close to pointless — the gap is a coffee. The real difference is what a month of work gets you and how many actions fit the plan. Zugo publishes its action prices, so you can total your month before you pay, not after.
On games specifically: in Zugo a 2D game is a first-class output like a site, and it costs the same 6 credits per build. Most services in the table do not list games as a supported use at all, so there the question is not price. For head-to-head detail there is Zugo vs Lovable, the three-way Zugo vs Lovable vs Bolt, and the full Lovable alternatives list. Coming from block builders, Tilda alternatives is the closer read.
What's not included in the subscription?
An honest list of costs that sit outside any AI builder's plan:
- A domain. Bought from a registrar, usually a few dollars a year. Connecting a custom domain in Zugo opens on Pro, but you buy the domain yourself.
- External services. Supabase (database and auth), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Google Analytics, and Vercel connect with your own accounts and bill on their side. Most have workable free tiers, but if the project grows, that bill comes from them, not us.
- Payment fees. If you take money through Stripe, their percentage is a cost of your business.
- Your time. The most underpriced line. An hour spent rewriting a prompt costs more than ten credits.
Hosting on a .zugo.run address is included in the subscription; there is no separate charge for it.
Is it cheaper than hiring a developer?
You cannot compare directly, because the unit of price is different, and that matters more than any figure. A freelancer or agency sells the project: you pay for the finished result, and every later change is a new agreement, a new invoice, and a new wait. An AI builder sells the action: an edit is 3 credit, about $0.125 at the subscription rate, and it runs while you still hold the task in your head.
So the applied takeaway, not a slogan. If the spec is fixed and no edits are coming, the money difference is not decisive — take the option you trust. If the project is alive and you will change it every week for the next six months, the economics diverge by an order of magnitude, because the expensive part is not the first build, it is the hundred-and-first edit.
And the flip side, said plainly: pixel-perfect layout tuning by a single margin, and complex server logic with an unusual architecture, are still where a human developer is stronger. Zugo is about the path from idea to a published, verified result, not a replacement for a team on a hard product. If you want the full repo instead, export to GitHub and keep going in a normal editor.
Estimate your budget in five minutes
Take your project and fill in the numbers:
- Pick the type: single page is 6 credits, multi-file platform is 12.
- Estimate edits honestly — how many times do you usually change your mind? Multiply by 1.
- Add it up. Under 5, you fit the free start. Up to 200 a month is Pro at $25. More than that, price Business.
- Add a domain and external services if the project takes money or stores user data.
Checking the arithmetic is cheaper than debating it: the start is free and needs no card, and Plan mode lets you talk the build through before the first credit is spent. Build the exact project you are pricing on free credits, watch the real spend in the interface, and decide on your own numbers instead of our table. Open the builder at zugo.dev.
FAQ
How much does it cost to build a site with AI?
You can build the first one free. AI builders charge by action, not per site: in Zugo a fresh single-page build is 6 credits and an edit is 3, and Pro at $25/month gives 200 credits — enough for about 33 quick builds or 66 edits.
Why can't I compare AI builders by their plan price?
Because the unit differs. One service sells credits, another messages, another tokens, and the headline number is meaningless until you know what one action costs. Compare actions that fit in a month, not the sticker price.
What doesn't cost credits in Zugo?
Plan mode (discussing the build), cloning a template, remixing a project, previewing, and publishing are all free. Credits are only spent on fresh builds and edits.
